OUR INSPIRATION AND MISSION
The Darius's Heart Foundation was inspired by the sudden death of Darius Minor. Darius, the 18-year-old son of Charity Wines, died July 24, 2018 of acute aortic dissection with cardiac tamponade, with cardiovascular disease as a contributing factor. Darius was a standout athlete in multiple sports. He passed physical exams and never had any signs or symptoms of any cardiovascular issues. Darius was a loving and caring young man with a huge heart. He was always positive and had a smile on his face. His death impacted many from his hometown, to the University of Maine where his death occurred on the football field. Darius had received an offer to play D1 football at UMaine and visited the campus on February 02, 2018, he signed with UMaine and arrived on campus July 08, 2018. Only sixteen days after arriving, during a football practice, his life ended.

At Darius's Heart we are committed to funding research for Congenital or Structural Heart Disease. We want to ease the burden on families that have a child receiving medical help due to CHD, by helping with utilities, rent/mortgages, medical bills, etc. We have a determination to educate parents and youth about signs and symptoms of CHD, testing needed especially when participating in sports. Cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes, which is most often due to a heart abnormality.

We are dedicated to this mission in honor of Darius A. Minor, an amazing, loving son, brother and friend.
